Why are we so distracted with ourselves?

The latest thing that God has been teachng me in leading worship is how to stay in tune with Him once on stage and tune out the sound, instruments, vocals, and even congregation.  He wants me to allow His Holy Spirit to lead in worship and not me.  But this is really hard, and can someone tell me why?  Like what I think things should look like and sound like is any better than God's vision and presence...yeah, right!  And yet, I still struggle with putting myself and my thoughts and insecurities and concerns and pride before Him on Sunday mornings.  If the guitarist strums the wrong chord or I sing the wrong verse or the Powerpoint is showing the wrong words or the congregation is not raising their hands, does that mean worship was a failure that day?  I tend to think so in my limited mind, but NO, that is NOT what it is about.  Now, if God was not present, or the congregation was not being filled with the Holy Spirit, or if I was leading out of my flesh, then we would be leaning towards failure.  Worship is so about about God and is so much more than what we bring, but just the fact that we bring it at all is what blesses Him...to the point of blessing us back with His transforming presence.  Some Sundays I get it!  And others I forget it!  But I'm learning and so thankful to do so.

More of Him, please, and less of me, Melissa
