worship and obedience
There is this great verse in John 9 that the Lord caught my attention with recently. It comes after Jesus just healed a man who was born blind. The man is brought before the Pharisees to be questioned about who he think sthe Man who healed him is. In realizing the Man who healed him must have a strong connection with God, the previously-blind man says in verse 31, "Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him." This was a statement regarding Jewish belief and a foundational principle of their faith, a faith in which the Savior of us all sprang from.
The significance of this verse to me is that being a worshiper of God is equated to being one who does the will of God. To worship is a important as to obey. We have a friend who uses a phrase frequently, "immediate obedience". I translated that to "immediate worship" being just as important. There is a hidden power is praising God, you know. Even when the circumstances of life are less than desirable, giving glory to God for who He is and for the fact that He IS sovereign carries with it powerful consequences for the enemy and powerful benefits for our lives.
It is very easy to be negative. Even under the guise of being a so-called "realist", there is still a mindset of being defeated. I know that sometimes even when things are great, Rick and I begin fear what must be about to go wrong...like this must just be a calm before some upcoming storm. Starting today, I want to change that frame of mind. On a consistent basis I want to worship God in all things, for all things, and even because of ALL things. I don't want to be a worshiper just on Sunday mornings, or Thursday nights, or when I'm playing my guitar, or on payday, or when my husband buys me flowers...I want to just BE a worshiper of God...period. He derserve the praise. He craves the praise. You and I NEED to praise. It cause the SON to shine brighter in each moment of our days.
A worshiper of God,
Melissa
