Dallas, doubles, doo-dads, and a danged 'ole good time

Dallas - I just got back from Dallas.  I visited my brother whom I have not seen in two and a half years.  It was so great to spend some time with him.  He looks so much older now, which was weird considering he is my baby brother.  I also got to see my best friend of 18 years, Jeni, who just had her fourth child, yes I said FOURTH!  His name is Remington, and he is beautiful.  Congratulations Jeni, Michael, and fam!  I also stayed with my other best friend of 15 years, Liz, who allowed me to crash at her house during my entire trip.  She was incredibly gracious, as well as was her husband, John.  I had a great time relaxing there and catching up.  Then my mom took me shopping for my birthday, which was the best "vacation" part of my vacation.

Doubles - Caleb turned 2!  His birthday was Friday, August 3, and he really looks so big now.  All the baby-ness is gone and we are full blown into toddlerhood...and I am not just talking looks if you know what I mean.  If Caleb is curious about about something, he touches it; wants to try something, he does it; is unfamiliar with an object, he gets into it!  I'm sure 2 years old will be double the fun, double the adorable, double the talking, double the excitement, and double the trouble (in a good way).

Doo-dads - Big news!  My Dad is taking me to Jamaica at the end of August!  He won a trip with his company, and I am the more-than-fortunate one to be going along with him...all expenses paid!  Yeah, baby!  Of course, I will be without my husband, which will be strange and sad.  But I'm sure I will SOMEHOW mange to enjoy myself.  Thank you, God, for the gift of rest in unexpected ways.  This, of course, means that the other "dad" in my life, Rick, will be watching the kids alone...as he also did when I was in Dallas.  He deserves the DAD OF THE YEAR award for all he has done this month...while pastoring....while taking 4 seminary classes...while being an amazing husband.  I love you, Rick, so much.

Danged 'ole good time - Rick's redeeming time in August for his hard work is that he and I are taking a personal vacation to San Francisco in the middle of the month.  Nana, Rick's mom, is coming to watch the kids and have NANA CAMP 2007 - UNDER THE SEA with our kids and cousin Benjamin.  This week away that we take each year is the most rejuvenating thing for our marriage and ministry.  We thoroughly enjoy our time together...O, let me count the ways.  While we will miss our precious children, we are MORE than thankful for God's gracious gift of grandmas...specifically Nana Wood!

That's all here folks,
Melissa
